Vapour Series
Much of my creating process involves maximizing whatever materials I have on hand. I am deeply interested in extracting as much beauty as possible out of the residual substances that are the result of the process. Something as mundane as leftover paint water becomes a precious resource. Using such residues allows me to capture some of the spontaneity that the creating process produces. I treasure the mistakes and the runoff because I feel that they exist according to their own will. The process of creating the pieces reflects the counter-intuitive desire to capture spontaneity. The resulting work is a meditation on the fact that nothing is permanent. I have named this series “Vapour” as I feel it describes the physical condition of the medium – as if the paint has been caught in suspension.
